the winter photo tradition at big white mountain
an ode to returning clients
There’s something deeply meaningful about being invited back. Over the years, I’ve met many families at Big White Mountain in every kind of winter weather imaginable — bright bluebird days, soft fog rolling through the trees, and full-on snowy afternoons where everything feels quiet and still. No two sessions have ever looked the same, and that’s part of what makes each one special. What stays constant isn’t the weather or the light — it’s the trust. When families return year after year, they’re trusting me not only with their memories, but with the way their story is told. They show up knowing that I’ll meet them where they are, adapt to whatever the mountain gives us, and capture something honest and meaningful no matter the forecast.
Showing Up, No Matter the Conditions
Big White has a personality of its own. Some days are crisp and glowing, others are muted and moody, and sometimes the snow falls so thick it changes the entire pace of a session. Returning families understand this — and they embrace it. Instead of worrying about perfection, they lean into the experience. Kids play. Parents relax. Moments unfold naturally. Over time, that familiarity creates space for deeper connection and more authentic images.
Growing Together
One of the most rewarding parts of working with returning clients is growing alongside them. As their families change — new stages, new dynamics, children growing taller each year — my work has evolved too. Every session reflects not just who they are in that season of life, but how my eye, confidence, and approach have developed over time. Being trusted again as my skills grow is something I don’t take lightly. It’s an honour to document these families as their stories continue to unfold. Instead of worrying about perfection, they lean into the experience. Kids play. Parents relax. Moments unfold naturally. Over time, that familiarity creates space for deeper connection and more authentic images.
Why Returning Sessions Matter
Returning sessions aren’t about recreating the same photos.
They’re about:
- Building a visual legacy over time
- Capturing growth in a way that feels natural and unforced
- Creating images that feel familiar, comfortable, and real
Whether it’s a small family session or an extended family gathering, each return adds another meaningful chapter.
Big White Mouintain as a Backdrop
Big White Mountain isn’t just a location — it’s part of the story. Its changing conditions shape the mood of every session, offering something new each time families come back. Sun, fog, snow — each brings its own kind of beauty, and each one becomes part of the memories we create together.
An Open Invitation
To the families who have trusted me year after year: thank you. Getting to witness your families grow alongside my work has been incredibly special, and I’m so grateful to continue telling your stories. If you’re considering making family photos a tradition — whether at Big White or beyond — I’d love to create something meaningful with you, no matter what the weather brings.
